Guides and Scouts Get Flood Ready with Resilient Roch

The National Flood Forum joined more than 100 Scouts and Girl Guides from the Humberside area for Be Flood Ready 2026, an interactive event held during Flood Action Week.
The Resilient Roch Project delivered a series of hands-on activities to help young people understand flood risk while working towards earning a Be Flood Ready 2026 badge.
From flood-proofing homes to testing emergency essentials, participants got stuck into a range of challenges designed to turn important safety messages into memorable learning experiences.
One activity challenged young people to retrofit a model house, exploring practical ways to reduce flood damage, including installing flood doors, alongside sustainability measures such as solar panels and insulation.
Teamwork and quick thinking were put to the test in the timed Flood Bag Bean Bag Throw, which highlighted the essential items needed in a flood grab bag. Meanwhile, Yucky Dip Bingo helped participants discover the hidden dangers lurking in floodwater and reinforced vital flood safety advice.
The Water Pledge activity broadened the conversation, encouraging young people to think about wider water and environmental challenges and make personal commitments to save water in their everyday lives.
By combining interactive challenges with essential flood preparedness messages, Be Flood Ready 2026 helped equip the next generation with the knowledge and confidence to stay safer, protect their communities and play their part in building resilience to flooding.
