About National Flood Forum
We've been supporting flooded communities across England and Wales since 2002
Working for Change on Flood Risk
Founded by residents of Bewdley affected by flooding in 2002, the National Flood Forum is the UK’s first national charity dedicated to flooding. For over 20 years, we have worked across England and Wales to amplify the voices of those directly impacted by flooding, supporting people and communities to collaborate with flood risk management authorities to reduce the impact of flooding in their area.
Flooding is not a rare or “unprecedented” event. Almost every year, communities across the UK are affected, and climate change is increasing both the frequency and severity of flooding. The economic and emotional costs are high — and rising.
We believe flooding must be treated as a national priority. Reducing flood risk requires long‑term investment, shared responsibility, and a far more ambitious, people‑centred approach.
What We Do
We help people take control of their flood risk — before, during, and after flooding — and ensure their voices shape decisions at every level.
Supporting People and Communities
We listen to individuals and communities affected by flooding and provide practical support, advice, and confidence to manage flood risk and recover after floods.
Empowering Community Action
We support and facilitate Community Flood Action Groups across England and Wales, helping communities prepare for flooding and be part of the solution.
Representing Community Voices
We are the national voice of flood‑risk communities, ensuring government, agencies, and decision‑makers take account of local knowledge, lived experience, and community priorities.
Influencing Policy and Practice
We work to place flood risk and community resilience at the heart of policy‑making, promoting collaboration across government, professionals, and communities.
Providing Independent Advice
We remain independent so we can offer honest, unbiased advice through our helpline, website, staff, and Blue Pages.
