Severn Valley Water Management Scheme (SVWMS)

The Severn Valley Water Management Scheme (SVWMS) is a strategic, cross-border initiative led by the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales, Powys County Council, and Shropshire Council, aimed at reducing flood and drought risk in the upper Severn Valley while enhancing environmental and community outcomes. The scheme combines nature-based solutions, engineered infrastructure, and strong community engagement to restore habitats, improve river health, and protect homes and businesses. Since 2021, the National Flood Forum has supported the project by empowering Flood Action Groups and residents across 20+ communities, through this work, local voices influence project planning, while awareness, trust, and long-term resilience in these communities are being strengthened.
