Shropshire Community-Led Flood Resilience Programme

Since 2015, the National Flood Forum has partnered with Shropshire Council to develop a community-led approach, putting local people at the heart of flood risk management. The programme supports communities to form effective partnerships with Flood Risk Management Authorities, enabling residents to use their local knowledge to shape flood schemes and projects from the earliest stages. Shropshire, one of the most frequently flooded counties in the UK, faces increasing challenges from climate change. Flooding impacts extend beyond property damage, disrupting communities, threatening businesses, and causing emotional distress. By empowering communities, the programme builds confidence, collective action, and long-term resilience, while reducing pressure on emergency services.
